So many good films from masters like Lars von Trier, Michael Haneke, and Werner Herzog made it hard to weed out the films that will definitely see release this year since those are "film festival movies". Tried to come up with a good balance of those films and smaller, lesser known films. Time will tell if I succeeded.

on the film Antichrist: Lars von Trier is a mad genius. Very few filmmakers can push your emotions and your mind as wildly and as far as he can.
on the film Mother: This movie sounds like it's going to be amazing. Another in the really strong lineup of Korean films this year.
on the film The White Ribbon: Haneke always unsettles me to my core, not only because of his subject matter but also by the sheer mastery of his direction. Must see.
on the film Mr. Nobody: Any story that combines science fiction and alternate realities with memories and humanity is high on my list of films to watch.
on the film My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done: Werner Herzog and David Lynch working together? That's all you needed to say. I'm in.
on the film The Good Heart: Brian Cox in a Dagur Kari film makes this very high on my list. Noi Albinoi is still one of the best films I've seen at TIFF.
on the film Dogtooth: This movie looks sexy and scary. Sexual awakening leading to a rebellion against a repressive patriarch can only lead to violence.
on the film Castaway on the Moon: Korean reflection on urban alienation often leads to amazing results. Pretty intrigued by this film.
on the film Les Derniers jours du monde: Another great title, one of the few French films I've been intrigued by this year, oddly, and more Almaric make this a hot contender.
on the film 25 Carat: Spanish underworld, blackmail, big money, sexy criminals, search for redemption and the way out, what else can a movie promise?
on the film Symbol: Could be off-the-wall and funny or boring. Don't think it'll leave anyone feeling indifferent, though.
on the film Face: This film could fall into art house ridiculousness or could be mind-blowingly stunning. It's got a lot of things going for it, but we'll see
on the film Deliver Us from Evil: Based on the images alone, I'm intrigued by this film. The whole xenophobia of rural Denmark is also pretty interesting to me.
on the film The Road: So many reasons to watch this: John Hillcoat, who blew minds with The Proposition, Viggo Mortensen and Cormac McCarthy all contribute.
on the film Police, Adjective: This movie sounds complex in its simple plot and I'm intrigued by the new Romanian cinema.
on the film Micmacs: I love pretty much anything Jean-Pierre Jeunet does, the way he renders everything with lush, cinematic tones. Looks similar to Delicatessen
on the film Air Doll: Kore-eda getting surreal. After Nobody Knows and HANA, I think his films are pretty unmissable for anyone who loves being moved by film.
on the film Broken Embraces: Love Almodovar's female characters, especially when they're played by Penelope Cruz. The costume design looks incredible as well.
on the film Le Refuge: I'm always fascinated by Francois Ozon's portrayal of women, particularly French women, whom I have a great affinity for.
on the film Enter the Void: Gaspar Noe is a very good filmmaker in my opinion. His methods may sometimes seem extreme, but he usually proves his thesis in the end.
on the film Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky: Anna Mouglalis is one of the most beautiful women in the world and a film fest favorite of mine, two main reasons to see this film.
on the film Nymph: I like films that deal with humanity vs technology. That this one also includes the supernatural/unexplainable adds to its intrigue for me.
on the film All Fall Down: This film seems pretty intense, but the complexity of the unreliable narrator and the fact that it's based in Southern Ontario intrigue me.
on the film Year of the Carnivore: Sook-yin is a great broadcaster and her projects are often really well put together, so this could be worth a shot.
on the film High Life: Gary Yates usually has really great style in his films, and he really knows how to cast. Timothy Olyphant is always worth watching.
on the film Shameless: I love the Czech sense of humour. I can see this being a pretty funny movie.
on the film Accident: I'm short on action movies so I'll add this one to the list. HK crime films can be hit or miss, but they do compare it to Infernal Affairs!
on the film Valhalla Rising: The images for this film are very striking. A viking epic.
on the film Colony: I've been fascinated and frightened by colony collapse disorder since I first heard about it. Interested in seeing the human face of it all.
on the film The Last Days of Emma Blank: I love the title of this film. It sounds like a great absurdist comedy.
on the film The Art of the Steal: I don't generally see to many docs at TIFF but movies about art heists have a special place in my heart.
on the film Les Herbes folles: Having seen a bunch of the incredible films in the Resnais filmography this year, I'm looking forward to this. Plus Almaric and Devos!
on the film The Invention of Lying: This movie pretty much has to be hilarious. The premise is brilliant, Gervais wrote and directed, and the supporting cast is phenomenal.
on the film A Town Called Panic: Lots of people have shortlisted this which got me intrigued. Definitely looks like I'd enjoy it, but that's based on very little.
on the film Bitch Slap: I'm shortlisting this purely for campy, cleavage-based reasons. Another heist movie, but this one is Russ Meyer style.
on the film The Time That Remains: A comedy about Palestinians living in Israel is a great tagline and I've been curious about Elia Suleiman for a while now.
on the film George Ryga's HUNGRY HILLS: I love westerns, don't know if I've ever actually seen a Canadian one; this could be good.
on the film Bassidji: This film looks like it could be really impactful, if not simply revealing.
on the film Cleanflix: Appeals to my interest in film, censorship, and copyright, but could end up being full of information I already know.
on the film The Double Hour: Sounds like the kind of psychological thriller I'm into, and again, more heists. Heists and xenophobia seem to be themes this year.
on the film Google Baby: Looks like an interesting and somewhat scary view on globalization.
on the film The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers: Nixon/Vietnam era America has always been really fascinating to me because in retrospect it was all so obviously shady.
on the film Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives on the Alberta Tar Sands: I'm interested to see the photography in this film. I'm expecting it to be Burtynsky-esque. I wonder if this film is really 43 minutes long.
on the film Between Two Worlds: I can imagine that the barbarism of the war contrasted against the lush landscapes will lead to a very interesting, relevant story.
on the film Trash Humpers: The return of the mysterious Harmony Korine. Movie looks straight-up weird, but could end up being good. We'll see if it makes the cut.
on the film Adrift: Can't say I've seen many Vietnamese films before, which is as good a reason as any to see this film. That and the two naked Vietnamese women
on the film At the End of Daybreak: Blackmail crime drama steeped in a critical view of Malaysian society sounds like a potential recipe for awesomeness.
on the film The House of Branching Love: The absurdist note the Kaurismaki's so often strike can definitely be sensed in the synopsis of this film.
on the film Jean Charles: I have a secret affinity for these movies where I know the tragic ending going in. Focuses the film on the emotional depth of the story.
on the film Like You Know It All: I've heard a lot about Hong Sang-soo's films but I've never seen one. Maybe this will be my introduction.
on the film Same Same But Different: David Kross did make a big impression on me in The Reader, and the setting in Cambodia and the HIV plotline lend complexity to the story.
on the film Chloe: Atom Egoyan is a master of exploring the meaning of truth and how deceptive it can ultimately be to believe in. Should be good.
on the film Get Low: I like the premise but this will definitely end up in theatres so it's not a high priority for me.
on the film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: This movie is right up my alley, but will certainly have a decent run in theatres, so is just a marginal film fest pick.
on the film Love and Other Impossible Pursuits: Willing to try to get tickets to this just to see Natalie Portman in person for the first time since sitting next to her at Julie's Cuban.
on the film The Men Who Stare At Goats: Great title and seems like it'll be a lot of fun. I usually see one "event" film and this could be the one.
on the film The Private Lives of Pippa Lee: Robin Wright Penn is one of the best working American actresses and Rebecca Miller ain't no slouch herself. Too bad there's no DDL though!
on the film The Informant!: Obviously coming out soon in theatres, Soderbergh constantly challenges me with his masterful cinematic prowess in any genre.
on the film Life During Wartime: Todd Solondz is an intriguing and challenging filmmaker. Having seen most of his films, I'm usually looking forward to his new work.
on the film A Serious Man: Coen Brothers films are always a must-see. Theatrical release is guaranteed so might not be a film fest pick.
